Fact-Checking Policy

People use our pages to identify where a vehicle was registered, so the codes have to be right.

Our sources

  • RTO codes come from state transport department websites and notifications wherever they publish a list.
  • Where a state does not publish a full list, we compare several public lists and keep only codes that agree.
  • Rules on number plate format, colours, HSRP and BH series come from central and state notifications and official transport portals.

Codes change

States create new districts, open new offices and retire old codes. When we learn of a change, we update the code page and the state list. Retired codes stay on the site, marked as retired, because older vehicles still carry them.

Corrections

Tell us about an error through the contact page, ideally with a link to an official notice. We fix confirmed errors quickly. For any legal or official purpose, confirm the details with the RTO itself.
